January is speeding by and it seems there is no way to slow it down. We hope you’ve escaped the worst of the flooding in recent weeks and pray that the worst of the weather is past.
PoppySeed is bustling along with ideas and plans for the year ahead and it seems like there is always something hatching! Our new menu finally made its appearance in December and hopefully if you have tried of the new options you enjoyed them. The biggest hit so far is the BBQ Ham Knuckle, it’s tasty and soft and scrumptious and quickly becoming the must have item for many, we love it our our homemade sourdough.
So with the new year we are all focused and ready for some excitement. Our diary is well marked and labelled with upcoming events, parties and tastings. Our most exciting project however is the launch of our Afternoon Tea at PoppySeed Galway. The designs are being tweaked, the decor selected, the ware polished and the fun building. All going to plan this will launch at the end of February. Initially Afternoon Tea service will be available on Friday and Saturday from 12noon to 4pm and we would hope to extend this gradually. So if you are planning a treat, a party or simply wish to escape and while away some calm time our Afternoon Tea will be a treat worth booking.
The new food trends for 2016 are already getting press and in particular the good ol’ Irish pudding is getting a boost. Already a tasty favourite on Irish menus it is surely another massive boost to the booming Irish food export market. We love it and love trying new puddings too, watch out, they will be appearing on specials in the months ahead. Grains and pulses continue to be at the forefront of the foodie trends this year and we will see lots of quinoa, spelt, farro, lentils, peas and beans getting the nod. Some of the other predicted trends may be a little too rich for us at PoppySeed, but you never know maybe we will engage with Crickets and Camel Milk at some point, the jury ain’t convinced though….
