Spring is at last in the air, fresh mornings, frost and a little ray of sunshine here and there, now we can feel the edges of Winter are slipping away. With this burst of freshness there is the welcome appearance of fresh healthy fruits and vegetables and above all our interest in lightening our kitchen touch.
For a while we will look less to the hearty fayre of stews and goulash to the crunchy crisp bites of Spring. A visit to your local fruit and vegetable stall, shop or supermarket will offer you an abundance of healthy greens. Asparagus, Broccoli, Fennel, Spinach and green beans will be at their freshest from here on and these healthy veggies are great sources of fibre and vitamins for your diet, an honest pick me up for this time of year.
**We’re loving our Wok at the moment, a crisp stirfry with lots of vegetables and a hint of ginger or chilli, tasty dinners in minutes!
Fresh fruits will abound in the coming weeks too, being led most pleasantly by Strawberries and Rhubarb, great excuses to get baking with “healthy” ingredients. Freshly sweated fruits with a timid touch of sugar, a drop of vanilla and some greek yogurt for balance, yumminess without the calories.
Our cookery class in PoppySeed Oranmore is buzzing along with fun and many of these fresh flavours. After a wee midterm break next week our class focuses on a fabulous dinner party at home, we hope to gift our participants with ideas and tools to take away the stress of entertaining.
All else continues to bustle at PoppySeed we’re getting in gear for all the celebrations on the horizon – Mothers Day, St.Patricks Day and Easter Sunday all abound and treats must be had… we’re signing off to get back to it!,
Enjoy the days as they lengthen, the flowers as they start to bloom,
